In fact, I curated the permanent collection at the Metropole Arts Centre and the largest piece in the collection was Battersea Park Tragedy. We couldn't keep it on display, so I was the only person who got to see it for several years. Whilst the arts centre is long gone, I last saw the painting a few months ago.<br /><br />Whilst I don't have easy access to the records any more, a sketch for the painting sold 15 years ago at auction, dated 1974. So it is likely the real deal is from 1974, too.<br /><br />We had several other paintings by Carel in the collection, most of which are now hanging in the same room as Battersea Park Tragedy. retrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03995731364876626178noreply@blogger.com
