Billed as "the most futuristic house in the world," but is it the future?
Montreal's Habitat 67, Moshe Safdie, prefabricated
concrete boxes held together with glue and cables.
Futuristic? certainly, but certainly not the future,
then or now.
The venerable Quonset--one of the happier
adaptations of the old "GI" housing staple.
The A-frame, not really futuristic, but having a
lot going for it, if you can get past the "pup tent"
look and feel.
The geodesic dome, no, it's not an igloo, it just looks
that way. Futuristic, perhaps, but their future came
and went, leaving them a housing oddity.
The seeds of the future--a vintage "house trailer"
not unlike that which my grandmother once
owned, minus the flashy red paint job.
The manufactured home, where the future led.
My wife and I once lifed in something like this.
The modular present--our new neighbors.
Home wasn't built in a day (it took two).
Futuristic, and modular (it just doesn't look that way)--a long ways from my
grandmother's house trailer.
